How to enjoy the
Arcachon hammam

In an almost futuristic décor, our 160m² traditional hammam, "Arcachon", offers the three following rooms.

  • The first with hot baths enriched with eucalyptus essential oils
  • The second with a steam bath between 40 and 60°C
  • The third one is dedicated to exfoliation

The benefits of the hammam

After a long rest (about ½ hour), begin perspiring until the heat is no longer bearable (often 10 to 15 min). Then, make your way to the shower…the cold shower, but especially don't forget to sit 2 or 3 minutes before getting up to go (to avoid feeling dizzy) and to have a glass of cool water. You must repeat the process many times to allow your pores to "open" and to cleanse themselves of their impurities and then to "close" in the cold shower. One efficient hammam session should last at least one hour and a half…

In the hammam, you don't lose weight (you only lose water…) but you relax (a sedative effect), you feel aches and pains less (analgesic effect), you breathe better (even though at the beginning you may feel you are suffocating) and finally, you have a really special sensation that only a complete hammam can provide: you feel for the first time clean, right to the inside of yourself.

The hammam is an oriental heritage having its roots in ancient customs, and is no more than a steam bath at 40°C. In a refined Moorish décor, the heat, saturated at 100% humidity, leaves a gentle impression and is easy to bear thanks to the water vapour.

The high temperature soothes muscular aches and stiffness and helps sleep. Your sweat glands secrete perspiration and eliminate waste, cleansing your skin in depth.

The skin becomes softer, favouring the evacuation of dead cells: exfoliation is recommended at the end of the session.

There is ...pleasure for the body but also for the mind, a sensation of cleanness, purity, well-being, not only brought by the baths and massages: these vapours, waters and massages are thought to be the origin of the secretion of endorphins (a hormone secreted by the brain, close to morphine)! How does this secretion come about? Very probably through the phenomenon of heating and overheating in the hammam…
